SEPTEMBER 18TH

a note from Lilac about the “in-between hours” of market days

There’s no market this weekend, so that gives me time to practice my recipes, restock, and brainstorm whimsical ideas for future Lilac days.

Sandwich bread is a product I’ve been focusing on quite a bit. I feel its a common concern to have sandwich bread options that aren’t full of additives. I want to offer fresh bread that’s affordable and delicious. Here’s my progress so far:

My first few batches came out crumbly and a little lighter on top than I had intended. My latest batch sliced perfectly and was almost the right color. I think I baked it a couple of minutes longer than I prefer. The butter I brushed on once it came out of the oven was a little extra, too. With my next batch, I hope to have my finished product and then I can officially offer sandwich bread at Lilac.

Along with new bread recipes, I find myself practicing patience as if it’s also on the menu. Starting a small business as a mom of three and, mind you we aren’t millionaires, I have new ideas constantly flying off of me that I reluctantly have to strategically plan out over the coming months.

I want to fill my days with paint, dough, and fresh fruit, and even as I’m interrupted by breastfeeding sessions, I’ve thankfully found ways to mesh my hobbies into my children’s routines.

I like this seemingly new chapter of my life. I’ve recently shifted from mom-survival mode to mom-creative mode, and it’s made a world of a difference to my joy.

Thank you for spending a little time here.

Xo,

Claudia

“Practicing patience like it’s on the menu” and having “moved to Mom creative mode”… two favorite lines. In addition to that, the bread looks amazing. I want to reach through the screen for a piece!
